Getting your Community Onboard
Zena Armstrong, Cobargo Folk Festival
Sustaining and growing a successful festival in a regional area is impossible without the support of local communities. These communities are diverse and often have competing interests. What may appeal to volunteers and loyal festival supporters may not necessarily resonate with local businesses and local audiences. Building support requires tact, inside knowledge, inclusiveness and some diplomacy. Everyone needs to be treated with respect. Zena draws on the experience of the Cobargo Folk Festival to explore how to identify shared interests and how to develop a unique narrative to weld communities together and work towards a common good.
